Star Wars Episode IV: A New Pope

Remember that I've already told you about the awkward resemblance between Pope Benedict XVI (aka Ratzinger, aka Panzerkardinal) and the evil Emperor Palpatine from the Star Wars saga, one of the most demonic vilains in the movie history?

Well, the other time I showed you convincing pictures, and now it's time for you to show actual evidence that Darth Ratzi is as evil as Palpatine, not only because of his grim face…

… but also because of his stands on a great many things (just to quote a couple of words from Return of the Jedi:

This one is called "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Pope", a pun on "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope".

Striking, isn't it? This video was called "Dark Pope of the Sith", a pun on "Dark Lord of the Sith".

And to finish with, some genius had the idea of buying a little sculpture of the pope (which would be, otherwise, really dumb) and dress it with a dark cloak so that… he ended up with something like this:

Even more stricking, wasn't it?

If you don't know what to buy me for my birthday, I'd be delighted to get such a sculpture. It'd make a perfect addition to my collection (just to quote a few words from General Grievous).

1-18-08

Our famous NostalgiaCritic posted a video about a film code-named "Cloverfield". Please watch the official trailer before watching his opinion on that trailer. He is, as usual, very convincing…

Good guy, I just pissed myself!

Maybe it's Jesus: maybe he just wanted the Bible to get a twisted ending and decided to rampage through the city! Maybe it's all four of them, maybe it's a giant robotic Donkey Kong Jesus riding a puff of smoke. Holy shit that'd be really cool… BUT HIGHLY IMPROBABLE!
So I guess it must be a Blair Witch-like movie with a huge teasing campaign… and a giant monster. Maybe the return of the angry Stay Puft marshmallow man from Ghostbusters?

Doc Hollywood

I didn't see Doc Hollywood (starring Michael J. Fox) a lot, but I liked this scene where he's driving to L.A., and suddenly two cows appear on the road…

What's funny about is that the fence that Ben Stone (Michael J. Fox) destroyed was that of… yeah, of that scary looking guy (aka the "shovel slayer", Roberts Blossom) in Home Alone, but here of a judge who'll sentence him to stay in the village because they don't have a doctor… So he's gonna have to take care of normal people, he who was accustomed to seeing only beautiful women "in need" of breast surgery — because he's a famous surgeon, precisely.

Alternate Endings: the Return!

I've already shown you several alternate endings for the Back to the Future movies, but I've just found another that's worth the detour:

What if it had really happened…?

And I found a new one for Star Wars – Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back:

And another:

All too easy…

And yet another:

Soooo silly indeed!

Star Wars Kid Strikes Back

Remember that I've told you about this famous "Star Wars Kid" video? Well, I found other parodies of it:

— Star Wars Kid vs. Saruman (played by Sir Christopher Lee):

— What if he had played the role of Neo in the Matrix trilogy? (By the way, I didn't like that trilogy because I didn't understand anything about the story.)

So, we can conclude from this piece of evidence that our Star Wars kid was in fact imitating Neo… How incredible!

Another Commercial

As long as we're in the mood for commercials, let's watch this one:

That's all for today. Sorry, but I've got work to do.

Commercials and Celebrities

Remember that Citroën commercial featuring a dancing C4?

Some idiot made a parody with a 2CV:

"Vous n'imaginez pas tout ce que Citroën peut faire pour vous", they say.

Even Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) lies the C4:

But I admit I prefer this one:

Yeah, it's the French version (Sir Sean Connery being dubbed by Bernard Dhéran), but I couldn't find the English (or Scottish) one.

Freddy vs. Jason: the Ultimate Matchup

A couple of years ago, I watched that slasher film named Freddy vs. Jason, consisting of 85 boring minutes before you can finally watch the two evil characters (Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street and Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th series) fight with each other in a kind of final epic struggle to death. Here it is:

This is so funny, don't you think?

A Lawn Mower Can Save Your Life!!!

Remember what I wrote in my blog entry of 7 October? Well, for the first time I have to quote myself:
[Talking about Peter Jackson's Braindead]
I keep the best scene for the article I'll post on 31 October: it'll suit perfectly to the theme of the day… See you then!
Here we are. 31 October. I'm writing this at 6.42 pm. It's already dark. I'm alone in the corridor where my student room lies. It's the perfect time to watch the best scene of Braindead: the Lawnmower Scene. If you don't like horror movies and loathe the sight of blood (even fake), then you'd beter not watch this. Nevertheless, if you do want to have a good laugh, please watch it. It's definitely not the kind of movies that "make you shit bricks" (just to quote again thenostalgiacritic – cf. yesterday's post), but instead it's a tremendous movie.

And I can't resist to the temptation of showing you the fight opposing Father McGruder to several zombies:

And this is the origin of the zombie problem: rat monkeys of Sumatra (!):

Haha!!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the film!

Shaun of the Dead

Shaun of the Dead definitely kicks ass! It's a British zombie movie that's meant to be silly. As I didn't remember the plot quite well, here's the story in a nutshell (taken from the Wikipedia entry):
The plot focuses on Shaun, an unmotivated young man who is attempting to get some kind of focus in his life as he reconciles with his ex-girlfriend and settles his various issues with his mother and stepfather. At the same time he has to cope with an apocalyptic uprising of zombies that is causing society to collapse.
Here's a video containing some very good scenes of the film.

And a video featuring an appropriate song to fit the footage (and vice-versa):

The humour featured in this movie is typically British, and it is one of the reasons why I warmly recommend it, even if you don't like horror films. There are lots of references to George A. Romero's movie, too.

If you're interested in seeing more of that, check the many videos on YouTube.

The Top 11 Scariest Movies of All Time

Welcome to the Halloween Theme Week! It means that this week, I plan to post videos relating to Halloween.

Today's video was made by thatguywiththeglasses (my favourite YouTuber) for his channel thenostalgiacritic (which had also been deleted by YouTube). He analyses the "top eleven scariest nostalic moments of all time. Why top 11? Because I like to go one step behind".

# 11: The Wizard of Oz

I definitely have to see this movie: it's a reference for many parodies. It's a little bit too kitschy for me, though.

# 10: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (old version: 1971)

Never seen this one too, but just a couple extracts. Too kitschy as well.
"So, what's the deal, Wonka*?" [*pronounced as "wanker", I think…]

# 9
: Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland

In French, I think it had the ridiculous name of "Bizounours"…

# 8
: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (animated version)

# 7
: The snake from Beetlejuice (by Tim Burton)

# 6
: Ghostbusters

I was scared the shit out of myself by that ghost librarian when I was young!!
"… a spiritual nanny played by Peter MacNicol. Peter MacNicol is already really scary… Now imagine him in drag trying to play a Mary Poppinsish pedophile from hell and you got yourself a pretty nasty image."

# 5
: The child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Never seen, but I heard of it, especially as a musical.

# 4
: Large Marge from Pee Wee's Big Adventure (again by Burton)

I saw this movie a couple of years ago, and I regret it… It's one of the dumbest (in the bad sense of the term) films ever. On the other hand, I rather like Big Top Pee Wee (shame on me).

# 3
: Judge Doom from Who framed Roger Rabbit

This film stands in the my Top 10 Best Movies ever. I love Christopher Lloyd playing this part. He never blinks in the whole film… And the French version is great, too.
"The vilain is tall, is dark, is Christopher Lloyd…"

"… and you can count the bricks we shit after seeing this scene."
I just love this kind of expressions.

By the way, do you know why the title is written without a question mark? It's due to a superstition in Hollywood saying that you can never put such a sign in a title. Basically.

# 2
: the clown from Poltergeist

I still have to see it. Another source of parodies.

# 1
: the banshee from Darby O'Gill and the Little People

Don't know that one… But it looks scary… I mean back then it probably was.

Anyway, this is a great list, even though there are other monsters and creepy creaters that'd deserved to be on that list. I'm thinking about the wrath of God at the end of Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark, for instance.

10/28/2007

When a minutes is really 60 seconds…

You know that a minute in a film is never exactly a minute. That is the reason why some other brilliant YouTuber decided to edit the space battle from the end of Star Wars – Episode IV: A New Hope so that "one minutes" corresponds with exactly 60 seconds. Here's the result:

Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Thumbs up!!

Trip to Ghent

Yesterday all of the Bac2 students went on an excursion to Ghent.

The date was most suitable: the trade union of the SNCB/NMBS had decided to go on spontaneous one-hour strikes throughout the whole day… Nice.

About twenty students took the train in Namur, others in Mons or Liège, etc. (Because they had already gone back home to avoid carrying their luggage (I mean by that: clothes to wash) all day long.)

I was leaving from Namur. In the train, some of us played that infernal card game called Uno—I like it a lot: I played endless parties with friends when I was younger. The train arrived in the station of Brussels North round 9 pm, then it didn't want to move, for the stations of Brussels Central and South were completely stuck.

By chance, the train to Ghent that we were supposed to take in Brussels South had just stopped on the other side of the platform! In that very train we met some of Prof. Delabastita and Prof. Vandelanotte, accompanied by his newly appointed assistant for the first-year grammar course, Ms Breban.

Then the train took a kind of detour round Brussels, and before you could say "Jack Robinson", we arrived in Ghent. In the relatively kitschy station hall, we met some other students that had come either by car or by other trains.

But the problem was that 4 students who took the train in Mons had suffered the effects of the strike in Brussels, too, and after about quarter of an hour, I was asked to stay in the hall with Mr. Romero and Mr. Van Mensel, just because I was able to get in touch with the delayed students… Anyway, it was a good opportunity for me to talk in English and mostly in Dutch with both assistants. Meanwhile, the group had gone to the museum and started to visit the exhibition, British Vision.

The four students from Mons finally arrived, then we walked to the museum and several minutes later we joined our fellow students, divided into two groups for the guided tour of the exhibitions.

Our guide showed us some of the greatest paintings that were exposed, great masterworks by famous British names such as William Blake, Francis Bacon, John Constable, James W.M. Turner, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and many others. I wasn't particularily struck by those pieces of artwork, but it was still nice to see them "pour de vrai".

We got out of the Museum voor schone kunsten round 1.15 pm, then we took the bus to go to the North of the town, where we were free to do get some food. I bought a pack of chips in a typical frietkot: the chips were nice, but the packs weren't big at all… (But we're in Flanders, not in Morlanwelz.) And the fried cervelas was good, too. After that, some of us started interviewing people about their dialectattitudes: we were asked to do that as an exercise for Algemene taalwetenschap. Here are the questions (in Dutch):
– In welke programma's? Met of zonder ondertitels?
4. Kunt u twee typische uitdrukkingen (+ betekenis) in u dialect geven?
5. Waar komt u vandaan?
After that, we walked towards the British Innovations exhibition at the Museum voor Industriële Archeologie en Textiel. It was quite interesting to go back to the past and see old machines and inventions, as well as ancient texts and objects coming directly from the industrial revolution.

When we were done with this museum, those who had already done all of their interviews for Dutch could leave us to go to the station. But as I didn't want to leave so early, I stayed with a group of more than a dozen of students, plus Mr Delabastita, Mr Vandelanotte and Mr Van Mensel. We stopped at a café and we all had a drink.

But it was already 8 pm, and we had to take a tram to go to the station. There, we found out that the 6.27 pm train was about 20 minutes late. But in total, it was more than 40 minutes late, for the Oostende-Eupen train arrived at 7.05… "What a kerfuffle!" We took that train, going to Brussels. There, we caught another (delayed) train to go to Namur. It arrived in 9.05, so that I managed to catch the 9.10 bus to go back to my student room.

What a day!

[EDITED ON 28 OCTOBER:]
I wrote a blog entry on germ@namur about this excursion. Please check it out!

Fart Fighters

It's quite fortunate that the internet doesn't transmit the smells…

(Note that this post's title refers to the Little Britain sketches about "Fat Fighters", a kind of parody of Weightwatchers.

Vader Has Problems

Not only has Darth Vader hearing problems…

— Can you hear me?
— Yes, master.
— Are you sure?
— No.
--> BRILLIANT

… but also family problems:

— Damned Luke, I'm not your real father! ROFL

And apparently our old pal also suffers from flatulence:

This was just to end with a really silly video. More of Fart Wars tomorrow, hopefully!

Brokeback… to the Future

The other day, J.K. Rowling stated that the character of Professor Dumbledore was in fact gay. I don't know what she decided to mention that—it's going to give strenghten the anger of those who criticize the books for being anti-christian (even if there are lots of Christian elements in the them, like Christmas celebrations…). So then, Dumbledore is gay, but if we take a closer look on the films, there might be several other "gay" characters:

Remus and Sirius too:

Well, it's just silly. But this shows you how you can make a totally different film just by putting the pieces in another order.

As long as we're in the middle of a series of Brokeback Montain related parodies, I was also stunned by this secret relationship in Back to the Future:

Brilliant montage!

In the Lord of the Rings, too:

Lloyd and Harry from Dumb and Dumber:

10/23/2007

The Empire Brokeback!

Droids have feelings: they can live a true love story:

Obi-Wan and Anakin were having an affair, too!

Even Han Solo and Chewie!

I love these parodies on the Brokeback Mountain theme! More tomorrow

If you don't know yet where you're gonna go on holiday next summer…

… well, then, I've found something that might interest you and help you decide the destination of your next holiday. Enjoy the Kazakh National Anthem!

Kazakhstan greatest country in the world.
All other countries are run by little girls.
Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium.
Other countries have inferior potassium.

Kazakhstan home of Tinshein swimming pool.
It’s length thirty meter and width six meter.
Filtration system a marvel to behold.
It remove 80 percent of human solid waste.

Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan you very nice place.
From Plains of Tarashek to Norther fence of Jewtown.
Kazakhstan friend of all except Uzbekistan.
They very nosey people with bone in their brain.
Kazakhstan industry best in the world.
We invented toffee and trouser belt.
Kazakhstan’s prostitutes cleanest in the region.
Except of course Turkmenistan’s

Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan you very nice place.
From Plains of Tarashek to Norther fence of Jewtown.
Come grasp the might phenis of our leader.
From junction with the testes to tip of its face!
Of course, if you're not dumb (and I can reasonably assume that you aren't) you should have understood that this was a mere parody from the end of the terrific Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan with Sacha Baron Cohen (more about him in a future post, if I don't forget to do so). Well, in fact, it isn't even a parody, but a real fake anthem. Here's the really real national anthem of Kazakhstan, glorious country:

But still, would you go there?
