Much ado about nothing

How to make Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy A LOT shorter:

"Well that was incredibly easy!"
"Yes it was."
"Can you imagine what it would have been like if we had walked the entire way?"
"Don't be silly!"
"One of us might have died!"
"Hahahahahaha!"

Some LOTR stuff

A new kind of comics has appeared: you take stills from any movies (in this case from the Lord of the Rings trilogy) and you add texts. But since people (and myself) are never serious, the texts get really silly…

"Why the hell are you looking at me like that? Fuck man this. I'm leaving. You're drunk again."

My little hobbit…

I think Waldorf is going to like this parody video from the 2002 MTV Movie Awards ceremony:

BOROMIR: "It is a gift!"
JACK BLACK "You're damn right it's a gift. It's called Prince Albert and it's… my precious!"
SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR "So, you're telling us that you took the fabled Ring of Sauron, the One Ring that could destroy all of Middle-earth and attached it to your… your little Hobbit there?"

79 golden awards

The 80th Academy Awards Ceremony took place a week ago, and now it's time to watch a four-minute summary showing the 79 films that were awarded the Oscar® for the Best Picture before the 80th (No Country for Old Men):

For an exhaustive list, I refer you to the Wikipedia entry.

Leap Day (aka 'bissextile day')

Since today is 29 February, I thought it would be a good opportunity to write a few words about this day that only occurs once every four years (except on century years that aren't divisible by 400, e.g. 1700 and 2100). Here's the explanation found on Wikipedia:

Although the modern calendar counts a year as 365 days, a complete revolution around the sun takes approximately 365 days and 6 hours. Every four years, an extra twenty-four hours have accumulated, so one extra day is added to that calendar to keep the count coordinated with the sun's apparent position. (…) A leap day is more likely to fall on a Monday than on a Sunday. This is because the Gregorian calendar repeats itself every 400 years, which is exactly 20871 weeks including 97 leap days. Over this period February 29 falls thirteen times on a Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday; fourteen times on a Friday or Saturday; and fifteen times on a Monday or Wednesday.

Here's the most notable fact that happened exactly four years ago (from Wikipedia):

76th Academy Awards: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King wins Best Picture and Director awards and nine others for a total of 11 Academy Awards, a tie for the most ever won by a single film, and the largest sweep ever for a single film, having received 11 nominations. Acting honors were as follows: Best Actor: Sean Penn for Mystic River, Best Actress: Charlize Theron for Monster, Best Supporting Actor: Tim Robbins for Mystic River, Best Supporting Actress: Renée Zellweger for Cold Mountain. Sources:
(Newsday) (Box Office Mojo) (IMDB)

Fours years have passed! Time flies, as you can see. I can remember this ceremony perfectly, for it was the last one I saw on telly, because after that BeTV refused to broadcast it… (F*ckers.) Anyway, I was very happy for Peter Jackson and his crew, because all of them had done a terrific job with this marvelous The Lord of the Rings trilogy. About one year ago, I posted the introductory spot of the ceremony, which is basically a spoof on all the successful movies of 2003:

I spotted references to (in order of appearance) Last Action Hero, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The Terminator, Master and Commander, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mystic River, Seabiscuit, Finding Nemo, Cold Mountain, Monster, Something's Gotta Give, Lost in Translation and The Last Samurai. Could you find more?

While looking up for this video, I found one more fine example of Brokeback Mountain-inspired trailer, this time focusing on the "love relationship" bewteen Billy Crystal and the late Jack Palance. Most bits come from City Slickers and City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold.

Notice that the boy you see at 01:03 and at the end is actually the eleven-year-old Jake Gyllenhaal, who starred in Brokeback Mountain with the late Heath Ledger!

eBay

I'm currently preparing a blog entry with parody stuff about Yoda (one of my favourite Star Wars characters) and since one of those spoofs was made by Weird Al Yankovic, I thought I could feature another song of him. This one describes quite cleverly eBay, the best-know website for selling things you don't need anymore. (That's better than a bonfire, as they do in Little Britain.)

Lyrics:

A used ... pink bathrobe
A rare ... mint snowglobe
A Smurf ... TV tray
I bought on eBay

My house ... is filled with this crap
Shows up in bubble wrap
Most every day
What I bought on eBay

Tell me why (I need another pet rock)
Tell me why (I got that Alf alarm clock)
Tell me why (I bid on Shatner's old toupée)
They had it on eBay

I'll buy ... your Nik Naks
Just check ... my feedback
"A++!" they all say
They love me on eBay

Gonna buy (a slightly-damaged golf bag)
Gonna buy (some Beanie Babies, new with tag)
(From some guy) I've never met in Norway
Found him on eBay

I am the type who is liable to snipe you
With two seconds left to go, whoa
Got Paypal or Visa, what ever'll please ya
As long as I've got the dough

I'll buy ... your tchotchkes
Sell me ... your watch, please
I'll buy (I'll buy, I'll buy, I'll buy ...)
I'm highest bidder now

(Junk keeps arriving in the mail)
(From that worldwide garage sale) (Dukes Of Hazard ashtray)
(Hey! A Dukes Of Hazard ashtray)
Oh yeah ... (I bought it on eBay)

Wanna buy (a PacMan Fever lunchbox)
Wanna buy (a case of vintage tube socks)
Wanna buy (a Kleenex used by Dr. Dre, Dr. Dre)
(Found it on eBay)

Wanna buy (that Farrah Fawcet poster)
(Pez dispensers and a toaster)
(Don't know why ... the kind of stuff you'd throw away)
(I'll buy on eBay)

What I bought on eBay-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y

This parody song was a spoof on I want it that way, by the Backstreet Boys. (I admit I didn't know that. I hardly know anything about popular music, actually. Poor me!) Here's the video if you want to compare:

Happy Gilmore: some witty quotes

Watch this excerpt from Happy Gilmore, a tremendous movie in which I saw Adam Sandler for the first time:

— You're gonna beat me? At golf?!? Haha! Oh, you're on. You're in big trouble though, pal: I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast!
— You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?!
— Nooo… … …
So, this Shooter McGavin guy is a complete asshole, as you can see. He also threatens Richard Kiel, the guy who played the character of Jaws in some of the James Bond movies:

I'll tellk you more about the film tomorrow. This was just a kind of a teaser.

Uncyclopedia is full of wonderful animations, as you already know. I found this one pretty awesome. Its name was "Retardness".

It speaks for itself, huh?

Today's featured article: the One Ring.

A gastronomical journey

We can find all sorts of re-cut versions of famous movies on YouTube. I have already shown you some of them in the past couple of days. Today, I propose you a gastronomical journey in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now:

You see now why this is gastronomical?

And since we're busy with this film, let's watch one of the most famous quotes:

Brilliant! I've got to check out if other movies can be given such a twist. I had already found some goodies about Star Wars, namely Fart Wars. There, I've just found this new one about The Lord of the Rings:

PS. I'll tell you about my exams when they are all finished. I already took the German oral one last Friday, and today I was examined on English literature from 1660 to present day. I have a good feeling about both of them. More about that later!
PPS. I know I still have to write about days 2 and 3 of our trip to Amsterdam; I'll think about it, but it takes time to upload pictures and everything.

300

This entry is the 300th I wrote for this blog. That's quite a number, don't you think. It obviously make me think of the movie, 300, which I haven't seen yet. Perhaps in another life. Meanwhile, we can enjoy thatguywiththeglasses' parody in 5 seconds:

And this one (which I've perhaps already displayed before):

Here are two videos I found a month ago but I was keeping just for the sake of this 300th blog entry. The first one is a video about the Top 100 quotes in the (English-speaking) movie history.

However, I'm surprised that "I am your father" wasn't in this Top 100…

The second is a marvellous montage of bits of films where a character says a number; here we have the complete count from 100 to 1.

I told you it was brilliant! Thumbs up!
"When this baby hits 88 miles an hour, you're gonna see some serious shit!"

"One Ring to rule them all. One Ring to find them. One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

[By the way, here's the original version (in the so-called Black Speech of Mordor) of that quote in the book: "Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." I think it just sounds great.]

Black Books

Professor Vandelanotte posted today (at 11:38, but it's not a reference to George Lucas' 1138, I'm afraid) on germ@namur a blog entry about the return of Never Mind the Buzzcocks on BBC. The name of Bill Bailey was of course mentioned, for he is one of the guest presentors. In fact, I knew Bill Bailey already because he played the part of Manny in this tremendously brilliant series called Black Books (three seasons of six episodes were made between 2000-2004).

Basically, the action is set around three characters: Bernard Black (Dylan Moran), Manny Bianco (Bill Bailey) and Fran Katzenjammer (Tamsin Greig, whom we have also seen as Dr. Caroline Todd in Green Wing, another Britcom). All of them are completely crazy, but in their own way.

There's a YouTuber who actually put some episodes online. To give you a kind of Hors d'œuvre, here's the first episode of the first series (in three parts), called "Cooking the book".

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Note that Manny was given many nicknames throughout the whole series, e.g. Gandalf, Thor or Bigfoot, but my favourite was Gengis Khan.

I wish I had the DVDs so that I could watch all the episodes. But what am I saying? I don't have the time!!! I'm already looking forward to being on holiday in July…

Star Wars Kid Strikes Back

Remember that I've told you about this famous "Star Wars Kid" video? Well, I found other parodies of it:

— Star Wars Kid vs. Saruman (played by Sir Christopher Lee):

— What if he had played the role of Neo in the Matrix trilogy? (By the way, I didn't like that trilogy because I didn't understand anything about the story.)

So, we can conclude from this piece of evidence that our Star Wars kid was in fact imitating Neo… How incredible!

Brokeback… to the Future

The other day, J.K. Rowling stated that the character of Professor Dumbledore was in fact gay. I don't know what she decided to mention that—it's going to give strenghten the anger of those who criticize the books for being anti-christian (even if there are lots of Christian elements in the them, like Christmas celebrations…). So then, Dumbledore is gay, but if we take a closer look on the films, there might be several other "gay" characters:

Remus and Sirius too:

Well, it's just silly. But this shows you how you can make a totally different film just by putting the pieces in another order.

As long as we're in the middle of a series of Brokeback Montain related parodies, I was also stunned by this secret relationship in Back to the Future:

Brilliant montage!

In the Lord of the Rings, too:

Lloyd and Harry from Dumb and Dumber:

Alternate endings are back!

I told in another post that YouTube had just deleted several alternate endings that I wanted to show you. Well the genius whose page got deleted has reappeared, so that I have been able to correct the links on 1 October's blog entry, and that I'm going to show you the alternate endings I was talking about.

Bean: the Movie:

By the way, here's the 5 second version:

– Robert Zemeckis' Contact:

Haha!!

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King:

Borat:

(with a bit of Men in Black)

Titanic:

Forrest Gump:

Shawshank Redemption (I love this movie!):

Die Hard:

Honey I shrank the kids:

Baby Attacks Human

After all, if a mutant turtle is able to attack a human, no wonder that a mutant baby does the same, as shown in Peter "Yeah the 'Lord of the Rings' one" Jackson's gory movie Braindead, a masterpiece of fake-blood horror…

I also wanted to show you a fragment featuring a sheep. I thought it was in Braindead, but Mr Romero (not the horror movies director…) lets me know that this fragment was from Bad Taste, another Peter Jackson movie. Enjoy!

Moreover, this other extract kicks ass. You'd better believe me…

Divine intervention! I kick ass for the Lord! — Father McGruder (Stuart Devenie).

It's just perfect!!! I LOVE IT! Absolutely dumb and bloody.

I keep the best scene for the article I'll post on 31 October: it'll suit perfectly to the theme of the day… See you then!

"The face of the world would have been different if…"

… they had another haircut.

Yeah, I know that the end of the sentence in the title should have been "… she didn't have that nose", talking about Cleopatra. But I put a twist to this sentence just in order to announce the topic of this article: incongruent hairstyles applied to celebrities. Here are the finest examples that my mother sent me several month ago. (Note that we're obsessed with awful hairstyles such as the famous combover and the not-less-famous mullet. Have fun with:

George Clooney and his sexy combover (Julia Roberts is surely one of those women who fall in love men like that)

Mel Gibson and his combover/toupee (imagine Martin Riggs in The Lethal Weapon with that very haircut)

Brad "Combover" Pitt (do you really think he'd have seduced Angelina Jolie if he'd had such a haircut?)

Jack "Here's… Johnny!" Nicholson with Jean-Pierre Van Rossem's hair (the Joker in Tim Burton's Batman would have never been credible, nor in Kubrick's Shining)

Elvis "The King" Prestley gone disco (maybe he'd have looked like that if he was an adept of disco, not of rock 'n roll)

Donald Trump with a regular hairstyle, instead of his "combover-from-the-back", even though this looks rather like a toupee (without his peculiar hairstyle, he'd probably not be that famous)

John Paul II (yeah, the famous punk rockstar, I'm sure you'll recognize him; of course, this is a picture after his disco phase…)

Hugh Heffner (you know, the
Playboy guy; fortunately, he won't appear in his magazine with this hairstyle)

— The Fellowship would have been different: Sam (Sean Astin) balding, Frodo (Elijah Wood) gone Yul Brynnerish and Pippin (Billy Boyd) hired for the sequel of Dumb and Dumber

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Fart

As long as we're talking about farting parodies, why not watch this one?

Brilliant!

Oh, and there's a second one:

6/06/2007

They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard!

I'm not fond of techno music or what do you call it, but this is an exception, because it's a parody…

Legolas: They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard!

Gollum: What did you say?

Celeborn: Tell me where is Gandalf, for I much desire to speak with him.

Legolas: A Balrog of Morgoth.

Gollum: What did you say?

Gollum: Stupid fat Hobbit!
